One of the most anticipated events in the Coachella Valley and one of the largest film festivals in North America kicks off on January 6th and continues through January 17th.
With screenings and special events day and night through the eleven-day run, there’s plenty of diversity and genres to fit every taste. Under the direction of Darryl Macdonald, also known for his direction of the Seattle Film Festival, 2011 is set to be another exciting year.
A highlight of the festival is, of course, the black tie gala on January 8th. Palm Springs transforms into Hollywood for a night as fans line velvet ropes to see their favorite stars spanning generations walk the red carpet into the Palm Springs Convention Center.
This year’s Talking Pictures Series on January 13th will be especially poignant as the Icon Award will be presented to Michael Douglas after a screening of his recent work, A Solitary Man. Mr. Douglas is this year’s recipient for his creative talents which embody the highest level of achievements in motion pictures.
I personally hope, after his several months of courageous battle against cancer, that this award will come close behind prayers answered and the good news from his doctors we’re all waiting for: that Mr. Douglas is cured and on his way to good health.
