On Friday, October 28th, the Gala, to honor those who have shown exemplary caring, love and support of defenseless animals, will be held at the beautiful Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage.
World renowned musician, entertainer and humanitarian, Barry Manilow, will present awards to several recipients who have gone above and beyond in their work to advocate and protect the welfare of animals in and around the Valley.

In 2000, Dr. Lori Kirshner created the non-profit organization, Desert Paws, whose goal is “making a difference in the lives of animals in need”. It’s function was to generate funds and give grants to other non-profit animal welfare agencies and shelters in the Coachella Valley who would provide spay and neutering services, facilitate adoptions and purchase cages and medical equipment for animals in need.
The mission of Desert Paws was expanded in 2007, in building an education center focusing on animals, their environments and interaction with humans. And, through education of children and families, instilling a core value of compassion and respect for all living creatures.
Through the tireless dedication and abounding efforts of Dr. Kirshner and a board of directors, many have joined the cause in volunteering to adopt, foster and educate the public in preventing animal over-population, cruelty, violence and inhumane treatment to innocent animals who have no voice in generating protection for themselves.
